Subject: The Power of Positive Speaking
Speaker: Senior Pastor Brent Calhoun (2PM | Discipleship Training)
James 3:3-13 (KJV)
"8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be."
Everyone at Oasis of Hope Church on Sunday (April 6th) had an amazing time in the Lord. The presence of God was so full in each one of our services.
Pastor Brent Calhoun spoke during our 2PM Discipleship Training Service and spoke on the subject of The Power of Positive Speaking, which Pastor deemed a part two to what Assistant Pastor Mark Yandt preached on during our last Wednesday service. Mark preached on how the tongue could be the dividing factor between life and death. In other words, the results that we get whether they be negative (death) or positive (life) all depends on what comes out of the mouth.
Pastor opened with the above scripture and began to guide us through how we can learn to take control, with the grace of God, this unruly member called the tongue. The following points are right form Pastors notes:
1) Bits into the mouths of horses
The mouthpiece of the bit rests on the horse's tongue. Through training, the horse learns to respond to sensations in his mouth. A feeling that begins on the tongue results in how the horse places his feet.
The bit in a bridle helps you direct the horse's orientation, speed, and attitude.
2) Guided by a very small rudder
Our tongues will steer us, it will steer our conversations to ether talk about Jesus (Positive) or talk about Rob Ford (Negative).
3) Forest is set ablaze by such a small fire
In the book James he illustrates to us that it only takes a spark to start a fire. In the book or Proverbs it says, "For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases. As charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife. The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body" (Proverbs 26:20-22).
4) Set on fire by hell
Pastor stated this very powerful statement: "Hell has more to do in promoting the fire of the tongue than men generally think; and whenever men's tongues are engaged in sinful ways, they are set on fire of hell. No man can tame the tongue without Divine grace and assistance."
5) Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?
We have the choice to speak good things, read, listen, and mediate on good things or negative things. If we think and talk negative things you will have a hard time believing positive things. If you want to be successful (naturally or spiritually) you need to speak your goals out every day. In other words, prophesy your day with faith.
6) Your words chart your course of your life
"Your words are an indication of your thoughts" - Pastor Brent Calhoun
A word is a thought revealed! What you say determines your destiny as much as what you think. Positive thinking and positive speech are like the chicken and the egg analogy. On the one hand positive thinking leads to positive speech. On the other hand, positive speech leads to positive thinking.
7) Speak what you want!
Any words you speak have a frequency, and the moment you speak them they are released. How different the world would be today if in the beginning, God spoke what He saw - darkness. Yet, we know that God spoke what He wanted to see, and light came to be. Discover the underlying forces of faith and learn the power of speech!
Matthew 12:33-35 (KJV)
"33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. 34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things."
Pastor closed his message with the above verse as well as emphasizing what Jesus said in Mark 11:23, "...whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith."
Real faith always shows up in two places: in the heart and in the mouth. Faith talks! That is one of its distinguishing characteristics. The apostle Paul put it this way, "We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;..." (2 Corinthians 4:13).
"In is only when faith comes out of your mouth that it begins to change things in the natural world" - Pastor Brent Calhoun
In wrapping up our Discipleship training service, we as a church body made the declaration to commit to positive thinking, speaking, and rebuke the enemy when he tries to control the rudder (our tongue).
Then we begin to worship the Lord with all of our mights and prepare ourselves for the preaching word delivered by Evangelist Rev. Houghy who came and delivered a powerful message straight from the throne room of God entitled, "You Got Mail!"
If you weren't there you missed an awesome time in the presence of God, but you do have an opportunity to redeem yourself. Be sure to be with us next Sunday at 3PM for worship service in the Dome. Moreover, you definitely don't want to miss our Mid week Bible Study Series this Wednesday. This week Pastor will be beginning his series on Revive Your Relationship (Weds. Apirl 9th @ 7:30PM). We will have refreshments following each session.
